Dawlish, a popular seaside town in Devon, is under significant strain due to rapid expansion and an increasing population. Local councillors have voiced concerns that the town's population has effectively doubled following the construction of a large housing estate.

The surge in new properties across Dawlish and its surrounding areas has put immense pressure on the wastewater infrastructure, leading to issues with sewage discharge. This has caused considerable worry amongst residents and the wider community.

To combat this issue, South West Water is constructing a large underground storage facility beneath the town's green space, known as The Lawn, according to the Express. However, this development means certain amenities will be temporarily unavailable during the peak tourist season.
