D.C. Everest senior Gavin Barth won first place at the SpecMix Bricklayer 500 masonry competition Sept. 17, according to a community announcement.

Student competitors had 20 minutes to build a 9-foot, 4-inch wall showcasing their workmanship. Barth laid 63 bricks in 20 minutes, with fellow senior Grayson Johnson assisting as the mason tender.

The event, held at Fond du Lac Stone, aims to promote workforce development and build the next generation of skilled masons. It included Junior Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competitions for high school students and apprentices pursuing a masonry career.

Students also had the opportunity to interact with professionals in the masonry field.
