Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday, September 25, has officially signed up for Sydney Thunder. By joining the Sydney-based franchise for the upcoming 2025-26 edition of the Big Bash League, Ashwin has entered his name in the history books. He is the first Indian cricketer to sign up for BBL. The 39-year-old cricketer from Tamil Nadu announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2025, and quit IPL on August 27.

“Thunder were crystal clear about how they’d use me and brave enough to back it. My conversations with the leadership were excellent, and we’re fully aligned on my role," Ashwin was quoted as saying by Sydney Thunder.
