Dozens of refugees from Gaza touched down in Australia on Friday night to a high-level, but quiet government welcome, igniting fierce debate over immigration, security and transparency.

An exclusive Sky News report has revealed that a new cohort of Palestinian refugees was welcomed into Sydney from Gaza by Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.

The cohort that arrived on Friday night was met by an enthusiastic Mr Burke, but key their arrival had been kept from the public.

Migration agent Jamal Daoud, who recorded a video from the arrival, said the group was made up of immediate family members of Australian citizens, numbering “up to 40 or 50 people”.
