A man is dead and two police officers are on leave after an early morning shooting in Hixson.

Chattanooga police say the shooting happened 2:15am Thursday on Hamill Road, just off SR-153.

An officer was dispatched to the scene for a reported burglary. As they arrived, a man was spotted trying to drive away.

Police say the officer ordered the man to stop and get out of the car.

That officer and a second Chattanooga police officer tried to remove the man from the car, but police say the man put the car into gear and tried to drive away, nearly hitting one of the officers.

Chattanooga police say the officers then fired at the man and hitting him.

The officers then attempted life-saving measures on the man, who died from his injuries.
