The Mets and Cubs head into Game 3 of their three-game series in Chicago. New York is battling to keep its grip on a wild-card spot. The Cubs, with playoff position locked up, want to close out the series at home.

After a heartbreaking loss in the series opener, the Cubs absolutely blew out the Mets, winning 10-3. Chicago erupted in the third inning, sending a five-run rally at New York’s bullpen. Matt Shaw, who was under the spotlight for attending Charlie Kirk’s memorial, had three hits, including a homer, and Michael Busch added a two-run blast.

For New York, rookie Jonah Tong was once again a target as he allowed five runs in just over two innings. The Mets’ defense was also at fault, committing costly errors that extended innings. Juan Soto managed a home run, and Francisco Alvarez
