A Billings man was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years in prison after he admitted to beating a man with developmental disabilities to death.

Dante Anthoney Garriott, 20, was a caregiver at a residential facility for the intellectually disabled. Less than three months into his job, he assaulted Alan Wright. The attack put Wright into the hospital, where he soon died of his injuries.

At Garriott’s sentencing, Wright’s friends and family packed the gallery. Several of them took the stand to testify how a man who could not talk brought love and happiness into their lives.
