High drama unfolded at Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital on Thursday after the death of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy triggered protests and allegations of medical negligence.

According to reports, the child had developed health complications soon after receiving a polio vaccine earlier this week. Concerned family members rushed him to the district hospital yesterday, where doctors examined him. The family alleged that the doctors dismissed the seriousness of the case, assuring them that the child was fine and sending him back home without proper treatment.

Later in the night, the boy’s condition worsened significantly. He was brought back to the hospital early this morning in a critical state.
