Colonel Purohit was promoted by officials

Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit has been promoted to the rank of Colonel after a 17-year wait, following his acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

The Special Court in Mumbai acquitted Colonel Purohit along with all other accused on July 31, 2025. The blast had claimed six lives and injured over 100 people.

The promotion comes after the Indian Army lifted the Discipline and Vigilance (DV) ban that had been imposed on Purohit’s career for 16 years following his arrest in connection with the case.

This allowed the process of restoring his promotion and remaining service to move forward.
