John Swinney has apologised to a young West Lothian footballer who endured a five hour wait for an ambulance after suffering a double leg break.

Brooke Paterson, a 19-year-old Linlithgow Rose Ladies player, was in the middle of an away match at Cumbernauld United last weekend when a tackle went wrong and she was left lying on the pitch in agony.

Brooke was covered in coats and blankets by coaching staff to keep her warm as she endured a painful wait for an ambulance to turn up as temperatures plummeted, reports The Daily Record.

Anas Sarwar raised the case of the Linlithgow player at First Minister's Questions today as an example of how "every part" of Scotland's NHS is continuing to struggle despite the SNP Government repeatedly pledging to fix the health service.
