Renewed efforts to re-imagine abandoned railroad tracks in Soddy Daisy as Hamilton County commissioners are once again discussing turning rails into trails.

The proposal is to convert an abandoned section of tracks on Sequoyah Access Road into a hiking trail for all to enjoy.

At Wednesday’s meeting, commissioners discussed grant-matching programs that could fund the project, which includes a $2-million dollar grant through the Appalachian Regional Commissions Partnerships.

Commissioner Gene-O Shipley, who represents Soddy Daisy, says this project has been in the works for decades, and he hopes to see it finally happen.
