Meet the Mets
The Mets got walloped at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, falling 10-3 to the Cubs, but still hold a one-game lead on the final N.L. Wild Card spot thanks to losses by the Reds and Diamondbacks. Jonah Tong’s inconsistent major league stint continued, with the 22-year-old allowing five runs in two innings of work, while a Mark Vientos error (the Mets’ ninth in their past six games) led to two unearned runs scoring in the fifth inning. A two-run home run from Francisco Alvarez and solo shot from Juan Soto represented all the Mets’ scoring, and two of the team’s four hits.
