MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Nearly one-third of New Hampshire is now considered to be experiencing an extreme drought, according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor .

The portion in extreme drought includes most of central New Hampshire, from the Upper Valley to the White Mountains and south toward Lake Winnipesaukee. According to the report, the extreme drought area covers 32.74% of the state, up from last week's number , which was 22.82%.

This latest drought update is not factoring in any rain that has fallen since Tuesday morning, including the showers and downpours on Thursday. So, it's possible that drought conditions will look improved in next week's report.
