SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Two Syracuse University students have been charged with a hate crime after throwing crashing a fraternity’s Rosh Hashanah dinner and throwing pork on the walls and floor.
SU senior Peter Barry says he was shocked when he read about the incident, which police deemed antisemitic, on Syracuse's campus.
"I saw it originally on the Daily Orange and I was kind of surprised that some of these incidents are still happening on campus," he said.
The hate crime charges are not surprising in Barry's opinion.
"I feel like it is very disrespectful, especially with the Jewish holiday," Barry said. "They were trying to make a funny joke, and it really didn't hit."
