A 13-year-old teen boy and his family recently completed a 20-foot-tall replica of Six Flags Great Adventure’s iconic Kingda Ka rollercoaster.
Brett Kohlberg, of West Caldwell, spent three months constructing the replica with K’nex, a retro toy building system. He constructed it in smaller sections in his basement before moving it into the driveway to complete the assembly.
Kohlberg, with help from his father, grandfather, uncle and cousin, spent more than 10 hours connecting all of the smaller sections into the massive replica. The process involved keeping the structure on a platform and standing on ladders to connect the upper portions.
“Putting it together outside was the most nerve wracking and challenging part,” Kohlberg said. “After all of that craziness, it really paid off.”
