It was another busy season of road work and major construction projects across the province, but as the fall weather sets in, the heavy civil construction season is beginning to wind down.

For contractors, it’s now a race against the clock to get as much work done as possible before the winter weather hits.

The executive director of the Heavy Civil Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Kris Mulcahy, says early tendering this year for some of the road projects proved to be a big help for their member companies.

He says aging infrastructure in Newfoundland and Labrador is an issue – as it is throughout the country.

Mulcahy says roads, bridges and water and sewer systems require constant work.

He says the biggest challenge in this province always is the short construction season.
