LEADVILLE, Colo. — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is assisting the Lake County Sheriff's Office in investigating a fatal road rage incident.

On Tuesday around 10 p.m., sheriff's office deputies were called to reports of a shooting along Highway 24 just south of Leadville, the CBI said. When deputies arrived, they found Landon Levell Mentink, 40, of Leadville, shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement identified Robert Price Chase, 31, of Leadville as a suspect. Investigators said they believe he and Mentink were involved in a road rage incident that quickly turned violent.

Chase was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He's currently being held at the Lake County Detention Center. Chase made his first appearance in court on Wednesday, and a bond was s
