WASHINGTON - Recent rainfall has lessened drought conditions in most of the Mahoning Valley. However, the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map still shows local drought levels ranging from abnormally dry to extreme drought.

One week ago, most of the central and southern parts of Columbiana County were under extreme drought conditions. This week, the extreme drought is limited to the southernmost part of the county.

A severe drought indicates significant impacts on agriculture and grasslands.

Central Columbiana County is now considered to be under severe drought, while the northern and northwest parts of the county are under moderate drought.
