Work begins on long-term project to remake ghastly interchange that ripped through the Emerald Necklace

The Boston Sun reports on the start of the first phase of the Charlesgate project, which will try to bring back parts of the Emerald Necklace destroyed and put in permanent shadows by the Bowker overpass at the Fenway/Back Bay border. The initial phase, to run through 2029, will involve rebuilding the bridge over the turnpike and add more usable parkland, trees, shrubs, bike lanes and ADA accessible paths, as well as restoration of what is now basically the cesspool end of the Muddy River.
