CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A male arrested as a juvenile, then certified as an adult, is now being charged as an adult in connection with a fight that led to a shooting in Cape Girardeau.

Juan I. Mercado, now 18 years old, of Cape Girardeau, is charged with assault first degree, armed criminal action and receiving stolen property.

He was arrested as a juvenile after police investigated a shots-fired call on August 11 on the 2800 block of Themis .

According to Cape Girardeau Police, a victim, who appeared to been grazed by a bullet on his chest, told officers that he was involved in a physical fight with the suspect and he grabbed a knife and stabbed the suspect because the suspect had a gun.
