The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public of school bus safety rules.

In a press release, OPP officials stated that w ith the school year in full swing the Kirkland Lake OPP wants to remind the public of school bus safety rules within the community. Motorists should be extra attentive and prepare to stop for school buses from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time there is also an influx of students walking to and from school and bus stops.

Motorists are reminded that every driver when meeting or approaching from the rear, at a stopped school bus that has its stop arm activated and/or its overhead red signal-lights flashing, drivers shall stop before reaching the bus and shall not proceed
