Premier Doug Ford has announced a looming ban on municipal photo-radar cameras that is poised to axe a planned Hamilton expansion of automated speed enforcement across the city.
Hamilton’s council signed off on doubling the city’s four speed cameras earlier this week — and councillors were expected to debate a motion calling for a more ambitious expansion next Monday.
Those changes now appear destined to be halted, with the existing four cameras rotating through community safety zones in the city also slated to be pulled from the street under the government’s newly announced ban.
“Enough is enough,” Ford said today in Vaughan in announcing legislation will be introduced next month to ban photo-radar cameras in all cities. “This is all about money, it’s all about a cash grab.”
