Lansing — Republican members of the Michigan House and Senate discussed potential tax increases that could be approved as part of a last-minute budget deal during a private meeting Wednesday, according to two sources who were present inside the room.
The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to reveal what occurred inside the joint caucus gathering, six days before the deadline for lawmakers to craft a funding plan and avoid a state government shutdown on Oct. 1. That's when the next fiscal year begins.
