BOISE, Idaho — A geothermal break in downtown Boise that impacted evening commuters Wednesday has prompted a temporary closure.
The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) announced the section of Capitol Boulevard north of Myrtle Street will be closed until Friday, Oct. 3, crews estimate. The left turn lane on Myrtle is also closed.
Crosswalks on the north and east sides of the intersection are closed because of damage to the pedestrian ramps.
The damages were first reported by the Boise Police Department around 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The city says it is working on replacing the entire system with "new, leak resistant pipes" within the next couple of years. The system has heated downtown Boise since 1983.
