ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Improvements to Davis Park are set to begin next week, the City of Rockford announced on Thursday.

The renovation plan, valued at over $15 million, includes the development of a new skate park, and playground. This approval comes after an earlier attempt was halted due to costs exceeding the budget.

To accommodate the construction, the river walk path will be detoured to S. Main Street at the north and south ends of Davis Park.

Detours will be put in place to guide traffic.

In addition to the skatepark and playground, the project will also include seawall repair, river walk realignments, multi-use path improvements, grading and landscaping improvements, and installation of a new parking lot south of the Railroad tracks.

The construction will begin September 30t
