Barnstable County has received a grant of $143,750 from the USDA Forest Service to reduce wildfire risk by updating its Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The CEPPs are community-driven frameworks that outline local priorities for reducing wildfire risk. They have been in existence since the signing of the Healthy Forests Restoration Act signed into law by President George Bush in December 2003.
The Forest Service on Wednesday, September 24, announced the awarding of $804,821 in grants to four Eastern US Region communities to reduce wildfire risks.
These grants are part of more than $200 million being invested in 58 projects across 22 states and two Tribes.
