The deaths of four men during Wednesday’s (September 24, 2025) violent protests in Leh over demands for constitutional safeguards for Ladakh were caused by bullet wounds, indicating “indiscriminate firing by the police,” Cherring Dorjay Lakruk, the president of Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), told The Hindu on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Tsewang Tharchin 46, Jigmet Dorjay, 25, Stanzin Namgyal, 23 and Rinchen Dadul, 20. Mr. Tharchin was a retired soldier from the Ladakh Scouts.
