A Berlin woman who ran a home health care agency has pleaded guilty in federal court to hiding more than $1 million in gross earnings by filing a false tax return, federal officials said this week.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Denise Thibodeau owned and operated North Country Angels, a home health care business. Most of her clients were elderly individuals who needed frequent in-home healthcare assistance.
To perform the work, Thibodeau hired caregivers and paid them using an under-the-table cash payroll. Court documents show Thibodeau required clients to pay her in checks made payable to cash.
