PEORIA, Ill. – There were not many voices Tuesday night, but they were against a proposed sales tax for Peoria’s Glen Hollow shopping center.

The proposal would create a business development district that adds a 1% tax on top of other taxes at Glen Hollow. The tax would raise money to provide for services that would include building improvements, marketing, and more.

A public hearing for the district was held at Tuesday’s Peoria City Council meeting. Two people spoke at it, both against the tax.

“When I go to Glen Hollow, I go to Lowe’s or Target,” said resident Eric Hutchinson. “If there’s an additional 1% tax at Glen Hollow, I’ll probably go to East Peoria.”
