TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Meghann Bookout struggled to hold back tears as she walked around her Tallahassee home.
It was unrecognizable, severely burned following an overnight fire on Sept. 14 .
That fire began after a man, who court records identified as Steven Warren, climbed to the roof of her home and set a pile of leaves on fire, according to his arrest papers.
Since then, Warren has been in the Leon County Jail, where he faces an arson charge and has entered a not guilty plea.
For Bookout and her mother, Liz Turner, the focus is on the future. The two are taking it day by day.
“It was just shocking,” Bookout said.
The home had been in the family for generations.
“I spent six years of my life here. Everything that I worked for was in this home,” Bookout said.
