Tulsa Police are asking residents to stay aware of their emotions as a rise in “crimes of emotion” continues to affect the city.

Captain Richard Meulenberg of the Tulsa Police Department said high emotions in society can lead to violent incidents.

"When someone does commit a horrible crime, domestic violence or even sometimes these shootings and homicides, they will regret that later because they let their emotions overrun their logic," Meulenberg said. "And those things aren't logical. So we're just asking people to take a minute, realize what's going on all around you, maybe separate yourself from that."

He cited arguments over seemingly minor disputes, such as sports rivalries, that can escalate into violence.
