WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - The Jonathan Melendez murder trial continued Thursday in Jefferson County Court with some strong words from the judge to the suspect.
Judge David Renzi scolded Melendez, who is representing himself.
Melendez objected to the admission of surveillance camera footage into evidence, saying he hadn’t been allowed to view the footage.
Renzi told Melendez he had access to it for two years and reminded him that he was advised against representing himself without legal training.
“I warned you,” Renzi said. “I’m treating you like a lawyer. You made your bed. Now represent yourself.”
The surveillance video in question showed the parking lot of Northern Credit Union on Factory Street, which is where the victim’s car and the murder weapon were found.
