TROY, New York (WWNY) - As flu season approaches, the state’s health commissioner is encouraging people to get a vaccine.

State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald got COVID and flu vaccines at a pharmacy in Troy on Wednesday.

He says this is the right time of the year to get the vaccines. He also says vaccination remains one of the most effective tools to prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death.

Influenza season usually runs from October through May and typically peaks between December and February.
