ALBANY, New York (WWNY) - Some North Country governments are either under fiscal stress or susceptible to it. That’s according to a new report from the Office of the New York State Comptroller.
A total of 23 local governments in New York are in fiscal stress for local fiscal years ending in 2024, up from 14 a year ago, with increases in each category of stress.
In the North Country, the town of Massena was designated as being in “moderate fiscal stress.”
The towns of Louisville, Canton and West Turin are considered to be “susceptible to fiscal stress.”
The report uses indicators based on year-end fund balance, operating deficits, cash-on-hand, short-term borrowing and fixed costs.
