Boston Police Department officers were patrolling downtown late on Wednesday when they responded to a business on Salem Street called “Going Bananas” following a report that a man wearing all black was attempting to break into the convenience store.
Officers allege they arrived to find 24-year-old Elvin Clayton of Roxbury crouched in front of an open door to the business. The police say that when they put eyes on Clayton, he was “seen stuffing items into his clothing before trying to walk away.”
After apprehending Clayton, police spoke with a witness who told them Clayton had approached them and asked to borrow a screwdriver. Police allege they found a sealed box of baseball cards and an unopened box of chocolates hidden inside the suspect’s pants.
