SPARTA, MI – The next boys varsity basketball coach at Sparta doesn’t come with the NBA pedigree of his predecessor, but his track record and familiarity with the program make him a good fit on short notice.

Sparta announced Wednesday its hiring of Scott Berry as the next boys hoops head coach, replacing former Detroit Piston guard and two-time NBA champion Lindsey Hunter, who stepped down Tuesday before coaching his first game at the West Michigan school.
