Srinagar, Sept 25: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said the ongoing protests in Ladakh were a direct outcome of the central government’s “wrong policies” pursued since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. She said Ladakhis, known for their peaceful nature, had been compelled to agitate as New Delhi continued to ignore their genuine concerns.

Mufti said Ladakhis had initially welcomed the 2019 move, hoping for empowerment, but the opposite happened. “In 2019, when the special status was illegally and unconstitutionally removed, there was initially a wave of happiness among Ladakhis as they thought they would get more powers and rights. But the exact opposite happened,” she said.
