A Gary man was sentenced Thursday to a split term as an accomplice in a fatal gas station shooting.

Larry Tucker, 20, pleaded guilty in April 2024 to robbery and assisting a criminal in the Jan. 28, 2023, death of Alexander “Taz” Hudson, 26, inside One Stop convenience store, 719 W. 45th Avenue in Gary.

Judge Natalie Bokota sentenced Saunders to five years total in prison, followed by one year in Lake County Community Corrections and another year on probation.

Indiana law requires inmates to serve 75% of their sentence. Saunders’ lawyer Michael Campbell estimated he had around 3.5 years total of jail credit time. If so, Saunders may only have to serve a few months in prison before he is transferred to community corrections.
