Three Gary officers are on administrative leave following a domestic battery call Wednesday night when a man engaged officers with a firearm.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has been called in to investigate the incident, Gary Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Mitchell said in a Thursday release.
Around 8:40 p.m., police responded to a residence in the 2500 Connecticut Street for a battery call involving two men, aged 24 and 57.
Upon arrival, the younger man exited the house and started engaging officers while holding a gun, the release stated. His actions prompted the officers to discharge their weapons and hit the man.
The man, who was identified as Walter A. Wright, was quickly transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake, where he died from his injuries at 9:46 p.m., according to
