CLEVELAND -- Rookie right-hander Troy Melton will be on the mound as the Detroit Tigers try to avoid another sweep.
The Tigers (85-73) wrap up a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians (86-72) on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. at Progressive Field.
The Tigers have now lost eight straight and 11 of their last 12. They were swept by the Guardians last week in Detroit and are on the verge of suffering the same fate again.
The Guardians’ magic number is three, which is the combined number of Detroit losses and Cleveland wins needed to clinch the division.
If the Guardians hold on to win the Central, their rally from a 15.5-game deficit will be the largest comeback to win a division in MLB history.
