PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Retired music teachers Walter and Leesa Bates of Beaverton were in Los Angeles to perform at a ukelele festival earlier this week. Little did they know, they would end up with front-row seats to late night history.

The Bates’ have been long-time fans of Jimmy Kimmel, and bought tickets to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!" as part of their trip to L.A.

"We were heading down to the Los Angeles area for a ukelele festival. We belong to a ukelele group, and we were performing there, and so knowing we were going to be there, I looked online and applied for tickets,” Leesa Bates told KOIN 6 News on Wednesday.

During their trip, however, the pair questioned if the show would go on after comments made by Kimmel in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's death.
