CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A stretch of Lake Avenue may soon see its speed limit drop from 35 to 30 miles per hour.
A small change that officials say could save lives and make the neighborhood safer.
Cleveland Councilwoman Jenny Spencer hopes that the speed limit will soon change to 30 mph for a nearly 2-mile stretch from West 117th Street to Detroit Avenue.
“Even a 5-mile-per-hour speed limit change is a huge thing. It really sends a message to slow down in our neighborhoods,” said Spencer.
The councilwoman says that traffic studies conducted by the city show that even a 5-mile-per-hour reduction increases the safety of drivers.
“Crashes are much less deadly, dangerous, and have much lower impacts on the people involved,” Spencer said.
