You could argue that a lifeline from Raleigh to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools would reward inexcusable behavior.
After all, years of monumentally reckless incompetence and mismanagement dug the $46 million hole that has promoted layoffs, painful budget cuts and probable school closings.
While, as Interim Superintendent Catty Moore said this week, “nobody stole $46 million,” the district did overspend “in a ridiculous, crazy way.”
Which is almost as bad.
Why place taxpayers throughout the state on the hook for the poor judgment and profligate spending of one school district?
What happens if another school district paints itself into a fiscal corner? What if a similar budget disaster befell Guilford or Rockingham County?
These are all valid points.
But here’s the thing:
