TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved Attorney General Kris Mayes' request to intervene in Tucson Electric Power's (TEP) proposed rate increase case. TEP is looking to raise average residential bills by nearly 14%.
"This is blatant corporate greed," Mayes said. "TEP’s parent company reported $1.6 billion in net earnings last year... It’s time to say ‘enough.’"
If approved, Tucson consumers could see an additional $19.43 on their monthly bills starting next year. This follows a 10% increase in 2023 and a 6% hike in January 2021. TEP’s rates have escalated as rapidly in the last three years as they did in the 22 years prior.
