Two Alberta judges appear to have made donations to the United Conservative Party while sitting on the bench, a new report claims.

On Monday, the Investigative Journalism Foundation published a story stating Alberta Court of Justice Chief Justice James Hunter had launched a review after an analysis revealed Gordon Kenneth Hatch and Daniel Robert Pahl — whose names are identical to two sitting justices — had given money to the UCP

The court declined to confirm the investigation when contacted by Postmedia this week.

The IJF’s analysis showed Hatch donated $262.50 to the party in 2022. Pahl gave a total of $3,535 in 2018, 2022 and 2023.

Hatch is a judge in Camrose appointed in 2021. Pahl, a part-time supernumerary in Calgary, has sat on the court since 2002.
