YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- There were three items on the Youngstown Safety Committee's meeting on Thursday. One was about police cars, and the police department was ready to go full throttle, but the brakes were slammed on a discussion of new cruisers.
"What are we doing here? We need police cars. We had a shooting that happened at YSU last week. We didn't have enough cars to send officers up there to respond," said Youngstown Police Chief Carl Davis.
"But this is not new police cruisers business. This is old business, not new business," said Youngstown City Councilman Jimmy Hughes.
What Chair Hughes was willing to hear was talk about an improvement in crime stats. The newest batch of data collected over the last 20 months reflects what council wanted.
