WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Sedgwick County leaders are sounding the alarm over a new funding formula from the Kansas Department of Corrections. They say the change would slash millions of dollars from local programs that keep felony offenders under supervision and out of prison.

The county commission on Thursday approved a letter to state leaders calling the cuts unfair and urging lawmakers to step in. The new formula would cut nearly 39%, about $2.1 million, from Sedgwick County Community Corrections over the next three years. Meanwhile, Johnson County would receive nearly $1 million under the same proposal.
