A Mississippi-based specialty chemical producer is expanding its Tuscaloosa plant.
Southern Ionics is pumping $34 million into its facility, expanding its production capacity, upgrading equipment and adding a new product line.
The plant, located at 5410 Reichhold Rd., will expand its existing building with construction scheduled to begin later this year.
The project is expected to be fully operational by second quarter of 2027.
The project will also create seven new jobs, averaging $45 an hour.
Southern Ionics manufactures sodium bisulfite, which is used in water treatment and other industrial applications.
