MADISON (WKOW) — Planned Parenthood locations in Wisconsin will stop accepting requests for abortion appointments starting Wednesday, October 1.

This decision follows a federal budget bill that prevents abortion providers from receiving Medicaid payments for a year.

The organization is now working to see as many patients as possible before pausing the services and is coordinating with other providers to minimize disruptions.

"Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is—and always will be—focused on putting our patients first," Tanya Atkinson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, said. "Our commitment is unwavering: Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will continue to provide the full spectrum of reproductive health care—including abortion—as soon and as we are able to."
