Two Pennsylvania teenagers are facing criminal charges after attempting dangerous car stunts allegedly inspired by TikTok challenges that left one person dead and another with permanent brain damage, PEOPLE reports.

Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta announced the charges at a news conference on Tuesday, highlighting the devastating consequences of social media-inspired stunts.

“It’s important for the public to understand that these challenges can have severe, real-world consequences, creating significant risk to participants and sometimes the bystanders as well,” Baratta said.
